Ghada Hameed Habib, the Ombudswoman, received here today the newly-appointed French Ambassador to Bahrain, Eric Giraud-Telme, in the presence of Shaikh Mohammed bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director of the International Cooperation and Development, in addition to several members from the Office of the Ombudsman and the French Embassy in Manama.
 
The Ombudswoman welcomed the French Ambassador’s visit to the Office of the Ombudsman, wishing him every success in carrying out his diplomatic duties in a way that would achieve the common interests of the two countries.
 
She briefed the envoy about the tasks and jurisdictions of the Office of the Ombudsman, in addition to its work mechanism with regard to receiving complaints, assistance requests and visits to reform and rehabilitation, remand and detention centres, as well as the standards of those visits.
 
She also highlighted the activities of the Office of the Ombudsman regarding its international cooperation programmes and the exchange of experiences with similar international institutions, stressing the Office’s continued keenness to extend bridges of understanding and cooperation with relevant parties interested in its work, such as diplomatic missions accredited to Bahrain, including the missions of European countries and the European Union Delegation to the Arabian Gulf region.
