Kampala, Uganda: The Inspector General of Government (IGG) of Uganda, a member institution of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsman Association (OICOA), joined justice sector leaders and distinguished stakeholders in commemorating the life and legacy of the late Joan Kagezi during the 8th Joan Kagezi Memorial Lecture held at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
Representing the institution, Inspector General of Government Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala participated in the event, which brought together senior officials from across Uganda’s justice sector to honor the memory of the former Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions and her enduring contribution to the rule of law and public service.
Held under the theme, “Prosecution as a Catalyst for Economic Transformation, Safety and Public Trust,” the memorial lecture provided an opportunity to reflect on the critical role of justice institutions in promoting accountability, public confidence, security, and sustainable development.
The event paid tribute to Joan Kagezi’s distinguished service, courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to justice. Participants recognized her legacy as a dedicated public servant whose work exemplified integrity, sacrifice, and devotion to the public good.
The gathering also highlighted the strong institutional cooperation and shared commitment between the Inspectorate of Government and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among justice sector institutions in advancing the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights.
Speakers noted that the life and work of Joan Kagezi continue to inspire legal professionals and public servants, serving as a reminder that effective leadership is measured not only by positions held, but by the lasting impact made on society and the pursuit of justice.
