Ms. Ghada Hameed Habib, Secretary-General of the Office of the Ombudsman, received a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at her office in Seef District this morning. The meeting was also attended by Shaikh Mohammed bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director of the International Cooperation and Development Directorate at the Office of the Ombudsman.

The visit coincided with the delegation’s participation in a regional workshop organized by the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), in cooperation with the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization (AICTO), titled “Responsible Governance of Artificial Intelligence in Arab Countries.”

During the meeting, the Secretary-General welcomed the delegation and commended the level of cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and UN institutions across various development sectors. She underscored the importance of the workshop’s theme amid rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, stressing the need to regulate AI use in line with the principles of good governance and human rights protection.

Discussions also addressed:

🔹 The latest international practices for integrating human rights and technical standards into institutional workflows
🔹 Continued efforts to improve grievance-handling mechanisms
