Lichinga, Niassa Province – August 22, 2025
As part of its awareness-raising mission in Niassa Province, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Justice Office delivered a lecture at the Higher Institute of Rural Development and Biosciences (UniRovuma), encouraging students to understand and promote the role of the Ombudsman in society.

Held at the ICT Room of Nangala Campus, the session was presented by Ombudsman Assessor Felismina Muhacha and moderated by Prof. Dr. Julius Pedro, lecturer and Student Ombudsman at UniRovuma. The audience comprised mostly Law students, with participation from History students as well.

The lecture, titled “The Role of the Ombudsman and Reporting Mechanisms,” traced the institution’s origins from its creation in Sweden more than 200 years ago to the election of Mozambique’s first Ombudsman and the office’s current mandate. Muhacha highlighted the importance of students, particularly future lawyers, in applying this knowledge as both an academic resource and a professional tool to better serve citizens.

The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions, reflecting their strong interest and capacity to disseminate the knowledge gained.

In her closing remarks, Assessor Judite Zimba reinforced the Ombudsman’s role in promoting legality and accountability, while Prof. Dr. Julius Pedro welcomed future collaborations, noting the value of such initiatives in strengthening students’ understanding of justice and governance.
