A high-level delegation from Bangladesh, led by the State Minister for Finance (Special Assistant), Government of Bangladesh, Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, and accompanied by H.E. Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan, visited the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Secretariat on October 28, 2025. The purpose of the visit was to study Pakistan’s tax ombudsman model and explore avenues for institutional collaboration in establishing a similar framework in Bangladesh.

The delegation was received by Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah, Federal Tax Ombudsman of Pakistan, along with Mr. Khalid Javed, Registrar FTO, and Mr. Almas Ali Jovindah, Advisor (Legal).

During the meeting, Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah briefed the delegation on the structural, legal, and operational aspects of the FTO. He highlighted key achievements including recoveries exceeding PKR 23 billion, resolution of most complaints within 34 days, and the institution’s continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and taxpayer facilitation.

He also elaborated on the FTO Ordinance 2000, which empowers the Ombudsman to address maladministration by tax authorities and resolve disputes through Informal Dispute Resolution (IDR).

Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhry praised Pakistan’s Federal Tax Ombudsman system as a credible model of integrity and public service delivery. He commended Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah’s leadership, noting the transformation of the FTO into a responsive, people-centric, and reform-oriented institution. He further expressed keen interest in developing a similar mechanism in Bangladesh and strengthening future cooperation between the two countries.

As a gesture of goodwill, Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhry presented a token of appreciation to the Federal Tax Ombudsman, who reciprocated with a souvenir to commemorate the visit.

The visit concluded with a tree-planting ceremony at the FTO Secretariat—symbolizing friendship, growth, and enduring cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
