Peshawar — Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Babar Saleem Swati, held a productive meeting at the Assembly Secretariat with Ombudsperson Punjab Dr. Najma Afzal Khan, Deputy Director Admin Muhammad Akhtar Hussain, and KP Ombudsperson Barrister Rabab Mehdi. Secretary Syed Wiqar Shah and senior officers of the Assembly Secretariat were also present on the occasion.

The meeting focused on strengthening institutional collaboration, promoting good governance and inter-provincial coordination, and improving public service delivery mechanisms.

Speaker Swati briefed the participants on ongoing reforms in the Rules of Procedure and Assembly Privileges Act, as well as the Assembly’s paperless and digital governance initiatives. Participants lauded these reforms as significant steps toward greater transparency and institutional development within the province.

The forum also reviewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the KP Assembly and the KP Ombudsperson Secretariat, and discussed preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Conference. All participants emphasized the need for continued inter-institutional cooperation to advance shared goals of justice and good governance.

In a major highlight of the meeting, Speaker Swati proposed hosting a National Ombudspersons’ Conference at the KP Assembly, aimed at promoting dialogue and the exchange of best practices among ombudsperson institutions across Pakistan. The proposal was warmly welcomed by both Ombudsperson Punjab and KP Ombudsperson.

Following the meeting, the visiting delegation toured various sections of the Assembly Secretariat. In recognition of her services, Speaker Swati presented a commemorative shield to Dr. Najma Afzal Khan.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment among all participants to strengthening cooperation, promoting transparency, and advancing good governance across Pakistan’s institutions.
