Ankara / Kyiv — Chief Ombudsman Mehmet Akarca participated in an online meeting with the families of Ukrainian prisoners of war, hosted by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Ukrainian Parliament, Dmytro Lubinets.

The virtual session provided a platform for families who have not received information about their detained relatives for an extended period to voice their concerns, particularly regarding conditions of detention and the health and well-being of prisoners of war. Responding to these questions, Mr. Akarca shared detailed information on the initiatives and interventions undertaken by Türkiye’s Public Audit Agency to date, addressing the requests and humanitarian concerns raised by the families.
Mr. Akarca underscored Türkiye’s commitment to human rights, international humanitarian law, and the protection of civilians and prisoners affected by armed conflict. He reaffirmed the Public Audit Agency’s continued engagement within its mandate to support humanitarian efforts and uphold fundamental rights.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Lubinets and other participants expressed their gratitude to President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Chief Ombudsman Mehmet Akarca, and the Turkish people for their solidarity, support, and principled stance on humanitarian issues related to the ongoing conflict.
The meeting highlighted sustained cooperation between Turkish and Ukrainian human rights institutions and reflected a shared commitment to addressing the humanitarian consequences of war through dialogue, transparency, and international solidarity.
