Ombudsman Punjab Launches First International Internship Programme to Promote Global Collaboration

The Office of the Ombudsman Punjab, a member institution of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsman Association (OICOA), has successfully launched its first international internship programme, aimed at promoting institutional learning, knowledge exchange, and cultural engagement.

The programme welcomed participants from various international and national ombudsman institutions. Ms. Ayesha Hamid, Ombudsman Punjab, along with Mr. Kaiser Saleem, Secretary, extended a warm welcome to the participants and provided a comprehensive briefing on the Office’s achievements, ongoing initiatives, and its role in strengthening public service delivery and grievance redressal mechanisms.

An overview of the institutional mandate and operational framework was delivered by Mr. Nadeem Hassan Gohar, Registrar, offering participants deeper insights into the functioning of the Ombudsman office.

The programme also included specialized sessions on ISO 9001:2015 certification processes and departmental rotations, led by Mr. Sami Ullah, Advisor (Finance & Procurement / IT Infrastructure & Development), providing practical exposure to quality management systems and complaint handling procedures.

The diverse cohort included Mr. Ismail Areff Bawamia from the Office of the Ombudsperson for Children of Mauritius, Mr. Ahmet Kesgin from the Ombudsman Institution of Türkiye, Mr. Darren Carr from the Office of the City Ombudsman in Cape Town, South Africa, and Mr. Muhammad Kamran Ali from the Ombudsman Secretariat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

The programme concluded with a productive exchange of ideas, fostering cross-institutional dialogue and strengthening collaboration among participating institutions.

This initiative reflects Ombudsman Punjab’s commitment to promoting global engagement, enhancing institutional capacity, and contributing to the advancement of good governance, in line with OICOA’s mission.
