The Ombudsman of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ms. İlkan Varol, a member institution of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsman Association (OICOA), presented her 40th Term Report to the President of the TRNC, Mr. Tufan Erhürman.

The report covers the period from July to December 2025 and was prepared in accordance with Article 16, paragraph 1 of the High Administrative Auditor (Ombudsman) Law No. 38/1996.

During the presentation, Ms. Varol emphasized that the Ombudsman is a constitutional and independent institution where individuals can file complaints against administrative actions they believe to be unjust. She reiterated that the institution operates with impartiality and derives its authority directly from the Constitution.

Providing an overview of the report, Ms. Varol noted that during the reporting period, 10 investigation reports were finalized and published, while 17 complaints and applications were received. Additionally, 4 complaints were withdrawn after the administration corrected its actions in favor of the applicants during the investigation process.

She further highlighted that 26 citizens were assisted through legal guidance or by facilitating communication with relevant authorities in cases that fell outside the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction. Moreover, 2 complaints were referred to competent authorities in accordance with Article 13 of the Ombudsman Law.

The presentation of the report underscores the important role of the Ombudsman institution in promoting transparency, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights through independent oversight of public administration.

This development reflects the continued commitment of the Ombudsman of Northern Cyprus to strengthening governance and ensuring effective complaint resolution, in line with OICOA’s mission to advance good governance and institutional accountability among its member institutions.
