Lomé, Togo – August 1, 2025
To ensure the effective integration and performance of newly recruited civil servants, the Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic and the High Commissioner for Reconciliation and Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) held a two-day internal capacity-building workshop from July 31 to August 1, 2025, at the headquarters of the two institutions.

The workshop aimed to equip approximately 30 newly assigned public officials with the practical skills, institutional knowledge, and ethical standards required for their roles. Most participants were entering the public administration with limited understanding of their responsibilities, rights, and performance expectations.

Topics addressed included:

  • The mission and authority of the Ombudsman
  • Complaint handling procedures at the Ombudsman’s Office
  • Inter-institutional cooperation mechanisms
  • The mandate and functioning of HCRRUN
  • The reparations program of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR)
  • Victim support procedures
  • Staff performance and career development principles

Madam Awa NANA-DABOYA, Ombudsman of the Republic and President of HCRRUN, officially opened the workshop. She praised the government’s recruitment initiative despite fiscal constraints, emphasizing its impact on youth employment. She congratulated the new staff and reminded them of their duty to embody values of discipline, dedication, and accountability.

“A public service position is not a sinecure,” she emphasized. “Only those committed to results and hard work have a place within these two institutions, whose mission is to serve with integrity and deliver impact.”

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants extended a motion of thanks to President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé for his leadership in promoting youth employment and modernizing the civil service. They pledged to apply their training effectively in service of the institutions’ objectives and the well-being of the Togolese people.
