Islamabad: Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lt. Gen. (retd) Nazir Ahmad Butt, called on Wafaqi Mohtasib (Federal Ombudsman) Naveed Kamran Baloch on Wednesday to discuss avenues for strengthening cooperation in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance across Pakistan.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on enhancing institutional collaboration to improve public service delivery and reinforce accountability mechanisms.
The Federal Ombudsman briefed the NAB Chairman on the mandate and performance of the Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat, highlighting its role in providing free, prompt, and effective redress of public complaints relating to maladministration in federal government departments.
Naveed Kamran Baloch informed the meeting that the institution had resolved more than 250,000 public complaints during 2025 through its nationwide network of regional offices. He added that the number of complaints received this year is expected to reach between 270,000 and 275,000, reflecting increasing public confidence in the Ombudsman’s complaint redress system.
He noted that the Wafaqi Mohtasib has established itself as a fast, accessible, and reliable forum for citizens seeking relief against maladministration, contributing to improved governance and greater responsiveness in the public sector.
Chairman NAB Lt. Gen. (retd) Nazir Ahmad Butt commended the Federal Ombudsman’s performance and acknowledged the institution’s contribution to strengthening administrative accountability. He observed that there is considerable scope for closer cooperation between the National Accountability Bureau and the Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat to further enhance transparency, accountability, and efficient public service delivery.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to fostering greater institutional coordination in support of good governance and public trust in state institutions.
