Ombudsman of Mozambique and CTA Strengthen Dialogue to Promote a Fair and Competitive Business Environment

The Office of the Ombudsman of Justice of Mozambique, a member institution of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsman Association (OICOA), in partnership with the Confederation of Mozambique Economic Associations (CTA), held a business breakfast aimed at fostering dialogue and identifying practical solutions to improve the country’s business environment.

The meeting provided a platform for constructive engagement between the public and private sectors, with a focus on enhancing transparency, accountability, and competitiveness. It also aimed to strengthen understanding of the Ombudsman’s mandate and its role in addressing administrative challenges affecting businesses.

Participants highlighted key constraints impacting the business climate, including excessive bureaucracy, complex administrative procedures, delays in decision-making, legal uncertainty, and, in some cases, practices that undermine trust between the State and the private sector, including corruption.

Speaking at the event, CTA Vice President Mr. Onório Boane emphasized that the private sector seeks predictability, fairness, and respect for the rule of law. He underscored the importance of a transparent and efficient public administration that treats all economic actors impartially and facilitates sustainable economic growth.

In his remarks, the Ombudsman of Justice, Mr. Isaque Chande, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting an effective, transparent, and corruption-free public administration. He emphasized the importance of dialogue between the State and the private sector as a means to address challenges and improve the business environment.

Mr. Chande also expressed the Ombudsman’s readiness to collaborate closely with the CTA to develop practical solutions that ensure timely resolution of disputes and strengthen institutional trust.

Both parties agreed that sustained dialogue and cooperation are essential to transforming challenges into opportunities, fostering a more inclusive and competitive economy, and supporting sustainable development in Mozambique.

This initiative reflects the Ombudsman Institution’s broader role in promoting good governance, facilitating conflict resolution, and contributing to the creation of a fair and transparent economic environment, in line with OICOA’s mission.
