Luanda, Angola — 3 to 5 December 2025
The Institution of the Mediator of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire took part in the 8th General Assembly of the Association of African Ombudsmans and Mediators (AOMA), a major continental event that convenes leading institutions dedicated to human rights protection, administrative justice, and the promotion of good governance across Africa.

The Ivorian delegation was led by Madam Secretary General HADDAD N’GUESSAN-ZEKRE Suzanne, accompanied by Madam Counsellor KOHOU Audrey Carole and Madam Director of External Relations Prisca N’GBESSO, wife MIEZAN. The delegation represented the Mediator of the Republic at this high-level gathering, contributing to discussions shaping the future direction of mediation institutions on the continent.

Strengthening Governance and Consolidating Human Rights Protection

The Assembly’s deliberations centered on strengthening AOMA’s governance structures, enhancing its operational effectiveness, and solidifying sustainable mechanisms for the protection of human rights in Africa. These discussions are essential to reinforcing the credibility, modernization, and impact of mediation institutions across member states.

Participants also reviewed the evolving role of Ombudspersons and Mediators in promoting accountability, ensuring administrative fairness, and supporting social cohesion—particularly in a context of increasing citizen expectations and complex governance challenges.

AOMA’s Growth and Continental Influence

Since its establishment, AOMA has expanded significantly—from 26 members in 2005 to nearly 50 institutions today—illustrating the growing recognition of mediation bodies as key pillars of democratic governance and fundamental rights protection on the continent.

Côte d’Ivoire’s Ongoing Commitment

Through its active engagement in the General Assembly, the Institution of the Mediator of the Republic reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside its African counterparts to promote a modern, independent, and citizen-oriented mediation system. The delegation emphasized the Ivorian Mediator’s dedication to strengthening cooperation, sharing best practices, and contributing to the collective mission of safeguarding citizens’ rights across Africa.
