Entebbe, Uganda – The President of the Eastern Africa Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (EAAACA) and Inspector General of Government (IGG), Hon. Beti Kamya Turwomwe, has officially opened a five-day technical experts’ meeting aimed at developing a new five-year Strategic Plan for the Association.
Addressing delegates from EAAACA member countries, Hon. Kamya urged the team to craft a plan that would have a tangible and lasting impact on regional efforts to prevent and combat corruption. She noted that most member states currently rank below average in the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index, underscoring the need for innovative strategies and coordinated measures to turn the tide against corruption in Eastern Africa.
“Corruption remains a major cause of suffering in our region. This Strategic Plan must be bold, action-oriented, and result-driven so that Eastern Africa can defeat corruption,” Kamya emphasized.
She commended SecFin Africa for financing the Strategic Plan development process and pledged her commitment to ensuring the team delivers a high-quality, implementable document.
Speaking on behalf of SecFin Africa, Mr. Samuel Eduam, Anti-Corruption Advisor for the Eastern Region Hub, highlighted that the fight against corruption is a global priority, and supporting regional bodies like EAAACA and the Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network for Eastern Africa (ARINEA) is part of their broader mission to help eliminate corruption worldwide.
EAAACA unites the anti-corruption agencies of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Djibouti, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Burundi, fostering cross-border cooperation, knowledge sharing, and joint action in tackling corruption.
