Islamabad – July 2025
The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has intensified efforts to address long-pending complaints regarding the non-payment of sales tax refunds on tractors under SRO 706(I)/2010.
Following multiple complaints from aggrieved taxpayers, the FTO has asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to take concrete action and seek legal clarity from the Law Division on the matter. The FTO’s intervention aims to resolve the issue where refunds were denied on the basis of the withdrawal of SRO 706, despite taxpayers making purchases during its validity.
The FTO believes that the principle of legitimate expectation and legal entitlement must be upheld for all affected parties. The matter, if resolved, could benefit hundreds of taxpayers waiting for sales tax reimbursements tied to tractor purchases during the time the SRO was in effect.
The FTO continues to advocate for transparency, timely refunds, and fair treatment of taxpayers, while urging the FBR to act in accordance with legal precedent and procedural fairness.
