The Inspectorate of Government—a member institution of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsman Association (OICOA)—has received renewed assurance of support from the European Union in advancing anti-corruption efforts in Uganda.

This commitment was reaffirmed by the European Union Ambassador to Uganda, Jan Sadek, during a meeting with the Inspector General of Government, Ms. Naluzze Aisha Batala, held at the Inspectorate of Government headquarters in Kampala.

Ambassador Sadek stated that the European Union will continue to support the work of the Inspectorate through its implementing partner, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). He further noted that EU support would also extend to the collaborative anti-corruption framework involving the Office of the Auditor General and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA), aimed at strengthening accountability and transparency in public administration.

The EU delegation included Ms. Karolina Hedström, Head of Cooperation; Mr. Alvaro Anton, Head of Finance, Contracts and Audit Section; and Ms. Ann-Charlotte Sallmann, Programme Officer.

Welcoming the EU delegation, Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala commended the longstanding partnership with the European Union, noting its significant contribution to enhancing the Inspectorate’s capacity to effectively discharge its constitutional mandate. She highlighted previous EU-supported initiatives, including the Justice and Accountability Reform (JAR) Sector Reform Contract and the Strengthening Uganda’s Anti-Corruption Response Technical Advisory Facility (SUGAR-TAF). According to the IGG, these interventions have improved compliance with accountability regulations and strengthened the prevention, detection, and elimination of corruption in Uganda.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on Uganda’s anti-money laundering strategy and broader governance reforms aimed at reinforcing integrity and public trust.

The engagement was attended by the Deputy Inspectors General of Government, Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe and Patricia Achan Okiria, as well as Directors, Managers, and Supervisors from the Inspectorate of Government.

The meeting reflects the Inspectorate of Government’s continued commitment—aligned with OICOA principles and best practices—to strengthening international cooperation, promoting good governance, and safeguarding public resources through effective anti-corruption mechanisms.
