Rome, Italy: The Mediator of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, a member institution of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsman Association (OICOA), participated in the 3rd International Conference of Mediators and Ombudsmen held on 28–29 May 2026 at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome, Italy.
The conference was organized by Mr. Marino Fardelli, Mediator of the Lazio Region and President of the Coordination of Italian Mediators, under the theme: “The Role of the Mediator/Ombudsman in the Protection of Rights in a Changing World.”
The international gathering brought together representatives of mediation and ombudsman institutions from across the globe to discuss emerging challenges and innovative approaches to the protection of citizens’ rights, democratic governance, institutional transparency, and public accountability.
The conference featured five thematic working sessions addressing key issues related to the evolving role of ombudsman institutions in modern societies.
According to the organizers, the event brought together 120 delegations representing 83 countries, alongside 30 students and 18 academic institutions, reflecting the growing international importance of mediation and ombudsman mechanisms in promoting justice and good governance.
The Mediator of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire was represented by Mr. Tanguy Dimitri Koné, Secretary-General of the institution, and Mrs. Héloïse Kouassi Assamoi, Deputy Director of Cooperation with Mediation Institutions and Associations.
As part of the conference program, Mr. Tanguy Dimitri Koné participated as a speaker during the third working session dedicated to the theme: “Institutional Communication and Transparency: How to Bring Citizens Closer to the Ombudsman.”
The session explored strategies for strengthening citizen engagement, enhancing public trust in institutions, improving communication mechanisms, and increasing accessibility to ombudsman services.
The participation of the Mediator of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire reflects the institution’s continued commitment to international cooperation, exchange of best practices, promotion of transparency, and strengthening citizen-centered approaches to mediation and rights protection.
Through its engagement in global forums, the institution continues to contribute to international dialogue aimed at advancing democratic governance, accountability, and effective protection of citizens’ rights.
