The Mediator of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Gaoussou Touré, received in audience His Excellency Mr. Junji Gomakubo, Ambassador of Japan to Côte d’Ivoire, in a meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and institutional cooperation. The discussions provided an opportunity to review the strong and friendly relations between Côte d’Ivoire and Japan, with particular emphasis on Japan’s significant contributions to the country’s economic and social development.

Mr. Touré highlighted the importance of reinforcing cooperation between the Mediation Institution and both national and international partners, with the objective of increasing awareness of its mandate and strengthening its role in promoting social peace and cohesion. He noted that Japan does not have a direct institutional equivalent to the Mediator of the Republic and underscored the importance of presenting the structure, objectives, and functions of the institution to Japanese counterparts to enhance mutual understanding.
The Mediator further emphasized potential avenues for collaboration with the Embassy of Japan, particularly in areas such as social cohesion, dialogue facilitation, peaceful dispute resolution, and the promotion of harmonious coexistence. He also acknowledged that Japan’s cultural values, particularly its emphasis on civility, community solidarity, and social harmony, could serve as a useful model for strengthening peacebuilding initiatives in Côte d’Ivoire.

Both parties expressed interest in exploring future partnerships aimed at reinforcing mechanisms for dialogue and conflict prevention. This meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the Mediation Institution to expand its partnerships and promote sustainable peace and social stability through strengthened institutional cooperation.
