ISLAMABAD | Sunday – The business community has lauded the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) for unprecedented efficiency in resolving taxpayer grievances, with 44,370 complaints addressed out of 50,903 filed during the past four years — a record surpassing the combined performance of the previous two decades.
The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) hosted a reception in Islamabad in honour of Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah, Federal Tax Ombudsman, and Sohail Altaf, Chief Business Advisor to the FTO and Former President RCCI.
The event was attended by a distinguished gathering, including President RCCI Usman Shaukat, Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, members of the Executive Committee, former RCCI presidents, trade association leaders, and prominent dignitaries such as Additional Foreign Secretary (Africa) Hamid Asghar Khan, Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez, Ambassador of the Philippines to Pakistan, and Zamurrad Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Sweet Homes. Advisors from the FTO office and other industry representatives were also present.
In his keynote address, President RCCI Usman Shaukat praised the “historic performance” of the FTO under the leadership of Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah. He highlighted that in just four years, the FTO office resolved 44,370 complaints — more than the 37,118 cases collectively settled in the previous 20 years.
“This remarkable progress has set a new benchmark for taxpayer facilitation and institutional accountability,” Shaukat noted, commending Dr. Jah and his team for making the FTO a trusted forum for fair and timely resolution of tax-related grievances.
The event underscored the critical role of the FTO in fostering business confidence, streamlining dispute resolution, and strengthening trust between taxpayers and revenue authorities.
