The Banking Mohtasib Pakistan (BMP) has provided significant financial relief to banking customers during the first half of 2026, reaffirming its commitment to protecting consumer rights and promoting accountability within the banking sector.

According to official figures, the Banking Mohtasib resolved 18,482 complaints against commercial banks between January and June 2026, resulting in monetary relief totaling Rs762.76 million for aggrieved banking customers.
The Office also reported a notable increase in public engagement, receiving 21,392 new complaints during the first six months of 2026, compared to 16,915 complaints received during the corresponding period in 2025. Of the total complaints received this year, 4,005 were submitted through the Prime Minister’s Portal, reflecting growing public confidence in the complaint resolution mechanism.
Commenting on the rising number of banking fraud incidents, Banking Mohtasib Pakistan Sirajuddin Aziz urged customers to remain cautious and protect their personal and financial information.
He advised banking customers never to disclose confidential banking credentials, PINs, passwords, OTPs, or account information to any third party. In case of suspicious phone calls or fraudulent communications, customers should immediately contact the nearest branch of their bank or use the bank’s official helpline.
Sirajuddin Aziz further emphasized that banks’ call centres do not make outbound calls from their official helpline numbers, warning customers not to trust calls appearing to originate from banks’ UAN numbers requesting sensitive information.
The Banking Mohtasib continues to play a vital role in strengthening consumer protection, enhancing trust in Pakistan’s banking system, and ensuring prompt redress of customer grievances through an accessible and effective dispute resolution mechanism.
