DHAKA — The newly appointed Chairman and Commissioners of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) have formally assumed office and were welcomed by the Commission’s officials and staff.

Former Justice of the High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, Mr. Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury, has taken charge as Chairman of the Commission. He previously served as the Chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances.

The newly appointed Commissioners include Md. Nur Khan and Nabila Idris, both former members of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances. The Commission’s leadership team is further joined by Professor Md. Shariful Islam, Department of Political Science at the University of Dhaka, and human rights activist Ilira Dewan.

According to the NHRC’s Public Relations Officer, Yusha Rahman, following the assumption of responsibilities, the Chairman and Commissioners held an introductory meeting with officials and staff. During the discussion, the new leadership reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding and promoting human rights across the country, emphasizing that their work will be carried out with dedication, transparency, and accountability.
