Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, participated in the international scientific-practical conference on “Human Rights in the Context of Digital Transformation: Modern Approaches”, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Panel: Women’s Rights and Gender Equality in the Digital World
Speaking on protection and opportunities, Ombudsman Aliyeva highlighted the role of ombudsman and national human rights institutions in promoting the safe, human rights-compliant application of artificial intelligence, and stressed that protecting women’s rights in the digital environment must be a core priority for states. She noted that advances in information technology have significantly expanded women’s access to education, entrepreneurship, and public services — with digital platforms empowering the active participation of women facing social or physical limitations, and strengthening their self-confidence.
She further pointed to Azerbaijan’s recent reforms in digital development and innovative governance, including strategic documents promoting the safe, ethical, transparent, and human rights-compliant use of artificial intelligence. She underscored the importance of a reliable legal and institutional framework that ensures women feel secure online, and of embedding gender equality into the development of AI and other emerging technologies.
Event: Women’s Leadership in Decision-Making
Ombudsman Aliyeva also spoke on the importance of creating real opportunities for women’s equal participation in decision-making, noting that diverse perspectives contribute to more inclusive, people-centered governance.
Institutional Meetings
As part of her visit, the Ombudsman held official meetings with the Senate of the Supreme Assembly of Uzbekistan, the Legislative Chamber of the Supreme Assembly, and the Constitutional Court, discussing cooperation between ombudsman institutions, parliament, and judicial bodies in protecting human rights and upholding the rule of law. She also affirmed the continued strength of Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan cooperation in the field of human rights.
