Baku, September 2, AZERTAC — The Commissioner for Human Rights of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman), Sabina Aliyeva, held a meeting with Prof. Ergin Ergül, Dean of Ankara Medipol University and international human rights expert, and Nadir Adilov, Chairman of the Mediation Council, to discuss advancing cooperation in the protection of human rights and freedoms.

Talks focused on the development of mediation practices, adoption of international experience, and promotion of legal literacy. The parties also explored the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the legal field, assessing both the opportunities and ethical considerations.

Ombudsman Aliyeva emphasized that AI technologies, if aligned with human rights principles, could significantly contribute to strengthening public oversight and safeguarding fundamental freedoms. She stressed the need to ensure that digital innovation complements, rather than undermines, legal and ethical frameworks.

Prof. Ergül presented his newly published scientific book, “AI and Law” (“Yapay zeka və hukuk”), recently translated into Azerbaijani with the Ombudsman’s support. He explained that the book examines international law trends, challenges of modern technology, and the protection of human rights in the digital era. Prof. Ergül thanked Aliyeva for facilitating the book’s publication in Azerbaijan.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to pursue further legal awareness initiatives and collaborative projects between Azerbaijani and Turkish institutions
