Chief Ombudsman of the Republic of Türkiye and President of OIC Ombudsman Association, H.E. Mehmet Akarca, delivered a keynote address at the national conference titled “Ombudsmanship and Universities in the Century of Türkiye,” hosted by Muş Alparslan University. The event brought together students, faculty, and public officials to explore the evolving role of ombudsman institutions in shaping transparent and accountable governance in Türkiye’s second century.

Speaking to a packed audience, Mr. Akarca highlighted the importance of citizen awareness in ensuring the effectiveness of public services.

“We all benefit from public services. As students, you interact with institutions on matters such as education, housing, scholarships, dormitories, and healthcare. When you face delays or shortcomings, the Ombudsman Institution is here to help. We thoroughly examine complaints and seek just, lawful solutions,” he stated.

The conference aimed to strengthen youth understanding of democratic oversight and the Ombudsman Institution’s role in resolving grievances between citizens and the administration. Mr. Akarca called on students to actively exercise their rights and to see the Ombudsman as a reliable, independent recourse when public services fall short.

The event is part of a broader public awareness campaign under the Ombudsman Institution’s initiative to engage academic institutions and young citizens across Türkiye.
