In a significant step towards promoting sustainable mobility and reducing carbon emissions, AGECO’s CEO Mr. Aslam Azad, Technology Partner of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), presented electric bikes to the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat.

The Federal Ombudsman, Mr. Naveed Kamran Baloch, endorsed the COMSATS-supported initiative focused on indigenously developed electric vehicle (EV) retrofit technology, reflecting institutional support for green innovation and climate-conscious public service practices.

The initiative, developed with technical contributions from experts and supported by COMSATS leadership, enables the conversion of internal combustion engine (ICE) two- and three-wheelers into electric vehicles. This approach offers a cost-effective and scalable solution for Pakistan’s transport sector, where motorcycles constitute a major share of mobility and emissions.

With an estimated 30 million motorbikes contributing significantly to CO₂ emissions and fuel imports, the initiative aligns with national priorities of reducing environmental pollution, import dependency, and supporting sustainable urban mobility. It also contributes directly to multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including health, clean energy, innovation, sustainable cities, responsible consumption, and climate action.

This collaboration highlights the growing convergence between public institutions, technology partners, and development organizations in advancing environmentally sustainable governance frameworks under the broader vision supported by OICOA members.
