Tripoli – July 27, 2025
In a decisive move to address growing concerns over the performance and integrity of Libya’s telecommunications sector, Mr. Abdullah Qaderbouh, Chairman of the Administrative Supervisory Board, chaired an extensive meeting with key stakeholders, including top executives from the General Communications and Information Board, the Board of Directors of the Telecommunications Company, and the boards of major telecom operators across the country.

The meeting brought together senior leadership from:

  • New Madar Company
  • Libyana Mobile Company
  • Libya Telephone Company
  • International Telecom Company
  • New Generation Company

Also present were directors of public departments, committee chairs, and sector monitoring offices under the Board.

The agenda focused on assessing the current status of telecom companies, reviewing contractual performance, and identifying critical legal and technical challenges impeding the sector’s development. Emphasis was placed on enforcing Law No. (2) of 2023, which mandates the Board’s role in monitoring all types of contracts and ensuring technical and legal compliance.

Financial sustainability was a key concern. The participants discussed the urgent need to strengthen financial governance, ensure accurate and transparent financial reporting, and propose realistic, proactive solutions to enhance revenue generation and operational efficiency.

Mr. Qaderbouh reiterated the Board’s commitment to holding institutions accountable, stating that any official proven to have violated the law would face strict legal consequences in the interest of protecting public welfare. He called for the immediate implementation of a sector-wide action plan to:

  • Improve network infrastructure
  • Elevate service quality
  • Ensure accessibility and reliability for citizens across Libya

The Chairman concluded by emphasizing the principles of transparency, integrity, and performance-based oversight, urging telecom leaders to align their strategies with national priorities and citizen needs.
